Marvin Lee Mulligan

Marvin Lee Mulligan, 81, of Lynchburg, VA, died Friday, January 20, 2012. He was the husband of the late Virginia Hamlett Mulligan and the son of the late Elbert Franklin Mulligan and the late Clara Friese Mulligan.

Marvin is survived by a daughter: Kelly E. Mulligan of Lynchburg; a son: Michael M. Mulligan of Guatemala City.

Marvin was a retired sales trainer and underwriter for Nationwide Insurance. He was a proud Irishman, well versed in his ancestry, and felt fortunate to have visited Ireland twice, and most importantly, kissed the Blarney Stone.

He was a loving dad who had a great appreciation for nature, and instilled this in his children. He was a passionate comedian who never met a stranger and never missed the opportunity for a practical joke.

Thank you Dad for always making us laugh and being there when it mattered most. We will miss you more than you know. Cheers to you with a frosted mug of Guinness! We love you.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Virginia Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Campbell County Rescue Squad; Campbell County Vol. Fire Department, P.O.Box 4123, Lynchburg, VA., 24502.

Hello, my name is Ashley. I did not know Marvin personally, but I wanted to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. At times like this, I have found Jesus Christs' words at John 5:28,29 to be very comforting where he promised that "the hour is coming when all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out...to a resurrection of life." We also have the comforting assurance at Revelation 21:3,4 that soon "God will wipe out every tear from our eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be anymore." I just wanted to share something encouraging that has helped my family in times of loss. You will be in my prayers.
