Mae Mathilda Deacon

Mae Mathilda Deacon, age 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 where she was reunited with her beloved husband, Reverend A. Donald Deacon. Mae was born on March 6, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio, to William G. Berry and Georgia Mae Bright. As a little girl, Mae was affectionately called Peaches by her parents and sisters, a nickname that stayed with her throughout her life.

Mae is survived by her sister, Holly Ribertone of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, and her nieces, Gayle Ribertone and Laura Sande. She is survived by her devoted children, Joy Mendoza (Steve Mendoza) of Lynchburg, Virginia, Steve Hinds (Linda Hinds) of Mancelona, Michigan, and Rose Deacon of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Mae loved her grandchildren and was proud of each of them. Children of Joy: Alyssa Batchelor (Ethan Batchelor), Brandon Wilkerson, Victoria Mendoza, Carsen Mendoza, and Westley Mendoza. Children of Steve: Katie Hinds and Steven Hinds. Children of Chris Evans: Tiffany Evans, Bri’Anna Evans and Jaddon Evans of Freyburg, Maine.

Mae lived her life as a faithful servant of the Lord, lifting others up in prayer and sharing Jesus with everyone she met. She was a proud member of the United Pentecostal Church. She loved gardening, reading, and discussing the Bible with as many people as she could. She was passionate about history and carried a lifelong love for learning.
