Robert Winn "Bob" Hawkins, a lifelong resident of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on April 14, 1949, in Lynchburg, Bob lived a life dedicated to service, family, and community.
Bob graduated from Rustburg High School before embarking on a distinguished career in public service. He served his country with honor in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1976. Following his military service, Bob continued his commitment to protecting others by joining the Lynchburg City Police Department, where he worked until his retirement.
He was son of the late Louis Edward Hawkins and Helen Nelson Hawkins. He was preceded in death by his brothers George Russell Hawkins and Louie Edward (Andy) Hawkins; and his sister Helen Elizabeth (Betty ) Prophater. Their memories remained close to Bob's heart.
Bob was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn Metaxas; his daughters Tracy Graff (Jeff) and Teagan Brooks; and his five grandchildren: Sarah, Mark, and Andrew Graff, Pierson and Larkin Brooks. His family brought him immense joy and pride throughout his life.
Bob’s legacy of dedication and love will be remembered by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those he leaves behind. Visitation will be held on June 7, 2026, from 04:00 PM to 06:00 PM at Tharp Funeral Home 220 Breezewood Dr. Lynchburg, VA. A graveside service will be held on Monday June 8th at Fort Hill Memorial Park at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to The Lynchburg Police Foundation or Lynchburg Area Veterans Council, Inc. or American Legion Post 16.
