Phillip David Kidd, Sr.

Phillip David Kidd, Sr., 80, of Madison Heights, Virginia passed away on May 31, 2026, at home with family at his side.

Phillip was born January 8, 1946, in Lynchburg, Virginia to Minnie Stinson Kidd and Luke Kidd. He was lovingly raised by Edna Cash Stinson and Rolfe Adams Stinson in Madison Heights.

Phillip married Dorothy (Dixie) Fisher Kidd in 1969. Together they made a home and raised their children on the property where he grew up. His greatest joy was being with his granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emmalynn, whom he lovingly named Squirt and Runt.

Phillip had many occupations throughout his life, including electrician, proprietor of KRS Suzuki, and deputy at Amherst County Sherriff’s Department, but said farming was his favorite job. There was nothing he couldn’t fix, and he was always willing to lend a hand to help others. He loved to be outdoors, hunt, and work in his garage.

Phillip leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Dorothy, his daughter Amy, his son David and wife Kristin, granddaughters Elizabeth and Emmalynn, sister Dorothy Kidd Savage, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Rolfe Stinson, birth parents, Minnie and Luke Kidd, and his siblings, June Naomi Stinson Rhodes, Wyatt Stinson and wife Norma Jean, Wallace “Doug” Stinson, Raymond Kidd, Edward Kidd, Robert Kidd, Austin Kidd, Joseph Kidd, Willard Kidd, Lennard Kidd, and Annie Mae Kidd Euhler.

Visitation will be on June 4, 2026, 6-8pm at Tharp Funeral Home, located at 220 Breezewood Drive in Lynchburg, Virginia. Funeral services will be on June 5, 2026, at 2pm, also at Tharp Funeral Home. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia.
