Marjorie Giffen Wilson

Marjorie Giffen Wilson died peacefully on June 4, 2026, at 98 years of age. She was born in Steubenville, Ohio to the late Robert Morrison Giffen and Mildred Boggs Giffen.

She was preceded in death by her husband William E. Wilson, Jr, her sisters Nita Tracy (Brawley), Joann Dudley (Lysander) and her brothers-in-law William Light, Thomas Meek and Melvin Fletcher.

Marge is survived by her sister Barbara Kaye Fletcher, her children William E. Wilson, III (Beverly) and Ann W. Paterson (Robert); grandchildren M. David Wilson, Robert C. Paterson (fiancé Janessa) and Alexis P. Clarke (Gordon). Also surviving are a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Marge attended Randolph-Macon Women's College graduating with a degree in Sociology in 1949. During this period she met her future husband and spent the rest of her life residing in Lynchburg, VA. Upon graduation she worked for the Girl Scouts of America and often spoke fondly of the days she spent in Carmel, CA. She taught English at E.C. Glass High-School for 28 years. During this demanding career she earned a Master’s degree in Literature from Hollins College.

Marge was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She worked on many committees, one of which included the refurbishment of the church library. For decades she sewed school book bags that Centenary distributed to poor children throughout the world. She was a volunteer for the Virginia Baptist Hospital Auxiliary knitting baby caps. Marge was always observant for ways to serve and assist others.

She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; spending reflective moments with family, reading and playing bridge with her friends. On her death bed she worried about finding a substitute for her next game.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Westminster Canterbury on Saturday, June 20, 2026. at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
