Jimmy Lee Blevins

Jimmy Lee Blevins, 71, of Vernon Hill and formerly of Moneta, passed away Friday Jan. 27, 2012. For the past 26 years, Jim was the Postmaster at Hardy Contract Station at Westlake, The love of God, and his family, friends and customers all made his world complete.

Jim is survived by two sons, Jimmy Lee (Bobby) and Clint; three brothers, Bobby Ray (Aleta), Dan and Keith; four sisters, Sally (Tom), Cathy (Miles), Brenda (Tim), Becky (Jay); and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his best friend and fishing buddy, Ed and wife, Madeline; and friends, Tommy and Shirley, and Sandra Greer.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Joel and Mary and a sister, Viola.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Kochenderfer and Angie, and the nurses at Blue Ridge Cancer Center. Franklin County Hospice, Jan, Dena, and Kitty, Genia at Piedmont Hospice in Collinsville, Va., their acts of compassion meant so much to our family during Jim’s illness. A special thanks to Sandra Via for her generosity. The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, visits, cards, calls, and many lunches, all these really helped to make Jim’s days brighter. No flowers please, but memorials made be made to Mt. Ivy Christian Church c/o Property Fund, 5120 Scruggs Rd. Moneta, VA 24121,

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 PM, Friday, February 3, 2012 at Mt. Ivy Christian Church, Moneta with Minister Steve Pasley officiating. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, 586-3443.

    To Jim's family: Jim's smiling face and cheery greeting made our day every time we visited the Post Office. Since his illness and absence, we have missed him every time we're there. May God grant you peace at this sad time.

    All of us here at the office were so sad to hear of Jim's passing. He was a wonderful friend and client for many years and I'm sure he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

    We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jim's family and friends who lovingly and bravely cared for him body and soul, during his transition to sitting alongside his heavenly Maker. We have missed him greatly at his daily "post". What a ray of sunshine - what a smile! Jim had a way of making you know the rest of the day was going to be good.     Since the beginning of his illness and he had to leave the P.O. he has been greatly missed. Now he is at peace with God and no more suffering. Our prayers are with the family during these difficult times.

    I am So Sorry to hear about Jim. I know he was a Great Man and A brother to you all. I rejoyed Cleaning his Trailer a Long time ago and Meeting him.
