    Dear Mrs. GOld,
I had the privilege of studying under Marvin in the School of Pastoral Care at Virginia Baptist Hospital. That experience led to a long relationship during which he became not just a teacher but a mentor, a counselor, and a friend. I "thank my God upon every remembrance of him." My deepest sympathy to you and the family.

Dear Sue, I was so shocked to go online to the Brunswick Beacon and see that Marvin had passed. We are terribly sorry for your family's loss. We have always missed seeing Marvin at Hewett's Marina and helping him out on his sailboat. He was a good man and friend.

    "Crossing The Bar"
    by Alfred Lord Tennyson

    Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
    Turns again home.

    Twilight and evening bell,
    And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
    When I embark;

For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

We send our deepest sympathy. I had no idea that Marvin was suffering with dementia. I am so sorry and know you will miss him terribly. He truly saved my life through counseling as a young woman, then has been such a part of our family history through performing our marriage and daughters Melissa And Betty. Life is not fair and ends too soon but Marvin leaves a legacy of love, strength and understanding. You and all of your family are in our prayers.

    Sue and Family,

We were very sorry to learn about the passing of Marvin. When we read the sad news in the Robesonian paper, it brought back many wonderful memories from years past with our families - babysitting, house painting, and “baloney for breakfast” humorous articles.

Marvin was a warm and gracious friend to all and our family will always remember his kindness. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
