What Does a Funeral Director Do?
A funeral director is a licensed professional who specializes in all aspects of funeral services. They perform many tasks that take the burden off the bereaved and help them cope with the emotional upheaval that comes with such a loss.
Funeral Arrangements
First, a funeral director advises the bereaved on funeral arrangements and arranges for the transfer of bodies from private homes, hospitals, and sometimes from accident scenes.
Funeral arrangements begin with either burial or cremation and include the styles, designs, and costs of the funeral casket, cars, and flowers. Directors are also tasked with preserving, preparing, and keeping bodies for viewing before burial or cremation. In the case that religious traditions are to be followed, funeral directors liaise with clergy or religious advisers to the family of the bereaved. Directors also confirm the issue and verification of a Medical Certificate and register and obtain a Death Certificate.
Supervision of Staff and Other Funeral Services
Furthermore, their roles include coordinating and supervising funeral workers including embalmers, drivers, or clerical assistants. They even take care of the after-service reception, including the catering.
