Yvonne Iseman Horton, 96, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on March 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Woodford Cleveland Iseman and Elizabeth Ashley Iseman and the wife of the late David W. Horton, Sr., with whom she shared 49 years of marriage.
Yvonne was born on April 15, 1929, in Amherst County, Virginia. She attended school in Amherst County before pursuing her Licensed Practical Nursing degree through Franklin Memorial Hospital. She worked in the operating room for more than 20 years before accepting the opportunity to serve as Director of Housekeeping at Virginia Baptist Hospital, where she worked faithfully for 30 years.
Yvonne was a member of Northminster Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She instilled her strong work ethic and determination in her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren lovingly called her “Rocky.” She attended every game, play, and graduation with great pride. She never minced words, and you always knew exactly where you stood with her. She was an amazing self-taught cook and always took care of those in need. She advocated for the underserved, whether that meant helping with Gleaning for the World or handing out emergency kits to the homeless.
Yvonne is survived by her children: David W. Horton Jr. and recently deceased spouse, John, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Shannon H. Knight and husband, Mayo, of Madison Heights, Virginia; and Bronwyen H. Harvey and husband, Howard, of Lynchburg, Virginia. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Iseman G. Knight, Austin W. Knight, Spencer B. Knight, Carrington W. Harvey, and Elizabeth-Grace Harvey; her brother, Kinckle B. Iseman; and many loving friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Yvonne was preceded in death by her brothers, Zan Iseman and Woodrow Iseman, and her sisters, Drene Hawkins, Juanita Price, and Deion Taliaferro.
The family extends special thanks to her hospice nurse, Kasie Cash, RN, for her kindness and laughter with Mom. We would also like to thank her nieces, Wanda Booker and Brenda Turpin, for their wonderful support through visits and meals, and Laura Moore Spriggs, who always kept her looking beautiful.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Northminster Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Garrison officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northminster Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 106 Clearview Rd., Madison Heights, VA, or Neighbors Helping Neighbors of Amherst County, P.O. Box 1015, Madison Heights, VA.
