William Melvin Oliver

William Melvin Oliver, 66, of Forest, Virginia, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, leaving behind a family who will forever remember his love, loyalty, and devotion.

Born on November 8, 1959, in Lynchburg, Virginia, William was the son of Carol Taylor Cook and the late Lyle Mack Oliver. He proudly joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1979. After returning home, William built a life through hard work and dedication, establishing his own paint contracting business.

For more than 44 years, William shared his life with his wife, Tammy Oliver. Their marriage was built on friendship, love, and a deep devotion to one another. Tammy was not only his wife, but his best friend and the love of his life.

William enjoyed the simple things that brought him happiness. He loved trout fishing, camping, and playing pool, and he treasured the friendships and fellowship he found as a member of the 1727 Lynchburg South Moose Lodge. He especially enjoyed spending time with his Moose Lodge family and the many friendships he made there over the years.

As much as William enjoyed his hobbies, nothing meant more to him than his family. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, and he held a particularly special place in his heart for his granddaughter, Lakelynn “Button” Oliver. His family will remember him for the love he gave so freely and for the steady presence he was in their lives.

William is survived by his beloved wife, Tammy; his son, Camryn Oliver and his fiancé, Hannah Thomas; his daughter, Brandalyn Moore and her wife, Tonya; his cherished granddaughter, Lakelynn “Button” Oliver; his siblings, Mike Oliver, Ann Cash, and Rhonda Rankin; aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous other family members; his god- daughter, Berklie Harris; his special friends, Jim and Helen Puckett; his sweet dog and faithful companion, Gracie Lou; and his extended Moose Lodge family.

William’s life was centered around the people he loved, and his memory will live on in the stories, laughter, friendships, and countless moments shared with those who knew him best.

In accordance with William’s wishes, no services will be held.
