William (Billy) Fred Mitchell Sr.

August 26, 1934 - June 21, 2026

William (Billy) Fred Mitchell Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, faithful servant of Jehovah, and cherished friend, peacefully passed away on June 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and the compassionate care of the phenomenal staff at Fairmont Crossing Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Billy's life was a testament to loyalty, hard work, faith, and love for family. He shared an extraordinary 69-year marriage with his beloved wife, Joyce (Rita) R. Mitchell. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with treasured memories, unwavering commitment, and deep love. Their marriage was an inspiration to all who knew them and a shining example of enduring devotion.

Billy was a proud and loving father to Julie, Shari, Freddie, and Jamie. He treasured his family above all else and found his greatest happiness in watching them grow and thrive. He was also a beloved father-in-law to Lisa Mitchell and Michael Leonard.

Among the many roles Billy cherished in life, perhaps none brought him greater joy than being "Papa" to his five grandchildren: Ella, Ethan, Carter, Alexa, and Lena. To them, Papa was a steady source of love, encouragement, wisdom, and laughter. Known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, he could brighten any room with a perfectly timed joke or a warm smile.

Beyond his devotion to family and faith, Billy had a love for travel and enjoyed seeing new places and experiencing the world around him. Whether near or far, he treasured the opportunity to make memories with those he loved. His adventurous spirit, combined with his quick wit and warm sense of humor, made every trip and family gathering more memorable. The memories he created with his grandchildren and loved ones will be treasured for generations to come.

A proud graduate of John Marshall High School, Billy went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Stribling. The values of dedication, integrity, and service that he embraced during his military years remained with him throughout his life.

After serving his country, Billy dedicated his entire career to A&P, where he became known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to providing for his family. He took pride in his work and earned the respect of colleagues, friends, and customers alike.

Billy was a devoted Jehovah's Witness, and his faith was the foundation of his life. He was baptized on June 22, 1972, and his relationship with Jehovah guided him in all that he did. His faith was reflected in the kindness he showed others, the humility with which he lived, and the love he poured into his family and congregation. He found comfort and purpose in serving Jehovah and sharing his hope for the future with others.

Those who knew Billy will remember a gentle and caring man who made everyone feel welcome. Whether sharing a laugh, telling a story, offering support, or simply spending time with those he loved, Billy had a special way of bringing people together. His warmth, wisdom, and sense of humor touched countless lives and will be deeply missed.

While his family mourns his passing, they also celebrate a life rich in faith, love, service, laughter, and devotion to family. Billy's legacy will continue through the family he cherished, the values he instilled, and the many memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

"And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will 

mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."
