Willard Glenn Smith, 74, of Amherst, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025. He was the son of the late Willard A. (Pete) Smith and Elma Martin Smith. Glenn was a loving husband, dad, and grandaddy. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Frances Moon Smith; his children, Libby Unruh and husband Matt of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Shelby Johnston and husband Aaron of New York, New York; and Matt Smith and wife Kirsten of Amherst, Virginia; his grandchildren, Rachel and Jonah Unruh, Enoch and Boaz Smith, and Dylan and Hunter Johnston; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, R. Gene Smith of Brookneal, Virginia; his cousin, Edwin C. (Bud) Smith of Timonium, Maryland; a special uncle, Lee Martin, and his wife, Margie of Naruna, Virginia; and a special aunt, Doris Scruggs of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Glenn was born on August 13, 1951, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He grew up in Brookneal, Virginia and graduated from William Campbell High School. He attended Lynchburg College, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He later completed his Doctorate of Business Administration at Kennedy-Western University. Glenn spent decades working in human resources at BWXT. He leveraged his expertise to develop leadership programs that significantly enhanced the professional skills of numerous employees.

Glenn was a devoted member of Clifford Baptist Church in Amherst, Virginia. He faithfully served as a teacher, deacon, and on various committees. He loved teaching about creation and providing leadership training. He also held a special place in his heart for Dayspring Ministry in Amherst. In addition to his church involvement, he was a member of the Gideons.

Glenn accomplished many things in this world, but most importantly he loved the Lord with all his heart. He devoted his life to sharing that love with others and equipping them to walk in it themselves. Glenn loved his family while also empowering his children and grandchildren to walk in his legacy. The difference he made in this world will out live him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Clifford Baptist Church, or Dayspring Ministry in Amherst.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Clifford Baptist Church at 635 Fletchers Level Road in Amherst, Virginia with Rev. Jeffrey Campbell and Dr. Michael Fitzgerald officiating. Following the service, please join the family for a reception in the fellowship hall.
