Wilferd W. Felchle

Wilferd Wilmer Felchle changed his address on December 11, 2025, from Lynchburg VA to his heavenly home at the age of 98.

He was born September 4, 1927, at his grandparents farm home south of Goodrich ND. Parents were Edward Felchle and Otillia (Keist) Felchle. He was the first child and first grandchild born.

He attended a one room schoolhouse for grades 1 through 8. He then attended Goodrich ND high school. Upon graduation, he then attended Warner Pacific College and received BTH and BA degrees.

On August 29, 1952, Wilferd and Marlene Pfeifer were married in Portland, Oregon. They have been married for 73 years and that union has developed into a small community consisting of 2 children plus spouses, 6 grandchildren plus spouses and 25 great grandchildren. Population 43.

While living in Portland Oregon and attending college, he started his career in the United States Postal Service and retired 35 years later. In 1958, the family packed up and relocated to Grand Forks ND where they resided for 58 years. In 2016 at the age of 89, they bought a home and relocated to Lynchburg VA to be closer to family.

During his lifetime he enjoyed playing in his garage. Never ran out of ideas of things he wanted to try make. Two of his most memorable things completed were a Singing Christmas Tree, this included 12,000 lights, operated with 100 manual switches, held 18 singers and was 17 feet tall and 22 feet wide. He also built an 85% size model 1901 curved dash Oldsmobile from scratch with items laying around in his garage.

There was never a question on where he stood with his walk with the Lord. He was extremely active in church serving in any capacity where needed. Singing, teaching, preaching, youth leader, visitation and numerous committees. Just to name a few.

Wilferd was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Tillie Felchle. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, one brother (Clifford Felchle), son (Clarion/Beth Felchle), daughter (Cindy/Cecil Kramer). 6 grandchildren - Christopher Felchle, Bobbie McGuire, Chad Felchle, Kristen Waskey, Kyle Kramer, Kavin Kramer and 25 great grandchildren.

Two memorable comments made frequently. He was so proud of the whole group that made up our family. You'd hear that comment almost every time you saw him. The other statement was, It would be really special if some day you and I could stroll heaven together. He's there waiting! Will you be there?

A celebration of Wilferd’s life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
