Virginia "Ginny" York

Virginia “Ginny” York, 78, of Amherst, Virginia passed away peacefully, with her two daughters beside her, Sunday, July 20, 2025.

Ginny was born on December 28, 1946, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, a daughter of the late Frank York and Dorothy Hopkins York. Ginny was the owner and operator of York Kennels in Amherst where she bred American Pitbull Terriers for over 48 years. She was a legend in the Pitbull world and a tireless advocate for the breed.

She is survived by her children: Tasha Brodeur of Unity, ME, Beth Hendricks and her husband David of Beavercreek, OH, and Jamin T. Brodeur of Woonsocket, RI, four grandchildren: Josh Sorrell, Jamin P. Brodeur, Phaedrin Brodeur, and Paxis Brodeur, three great-grandchildren: Joshua Sorrell, Aria Sorrell, and Amber Serenity Brodeur, one sister Carolyn Payne, one brother David York, two nieces: Eva Payne and Sarah Payne, and two nephews: Eric York and David York.

A Memorial Service for Ginny will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home in Madison Heights, VA
