Virginia "Jenny" Sands

Virginia “Jenny” Staton Sands, 95, of Forest, Virginia passed away on December 26, 2025. Jenny was born on November 10, 1930, in Madison Heights, Virginia, She was the daughter of the late Larnie and Mona Staton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Donald Sands; siblings, Buddy Staton, Bobby Staton, Alice Womack, and Elton Staton; grandchild, Jeffrey (Anna) Webber.

Jenny was fiercely independent, loyal, caring, and giving to her friends, family, and her community. Her career included homemaker, caterer, bank vice president, and promoting women’s business opportunities through her lifelong leadership in the American Business Women’s Association.

Jenny is survived by her siblings, Patricia Staton, Cecil (Joyce) Staton, Thomas Staton, and Roger Staton; children, Linda (Randel) Shawver, and Wayne (Susan) Sands; grandchildren, Jason (Laura) Bates, Josh (Christy-Lynne) Bates, and Jacob (Kelly) Bates; four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the outstanding team at the Forest Volunteer Fire Department and the medical staff at Lynchburg General Hospital who cared for our beloved “Nana”.

A memorial event will be planned for the Spring.
