Virgie Anne Anderson was born on January 2, 1940, in Campbell County. On July 20, 2026, at 7:24 p.m., at the age of 86, she peacefully departed this life, surrounded by the love and legacy of the family to whom she devoted her life.

Virgie was a member of Jericho Baptist Church, where she served as an usher. Her faith was reflected not only in her service to the church, but also in the way she cared for others throughout her life.

Virgie’s greatest accomplishment was personal and lasting: she gave her life to her family. She sacrificed her time, her comfort, and many of her own opportunities so that her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even later generations would always have someone to care for them.

Virgie helped raise her children’s children and then helped raise their children as well. When her family needed her, Virgie was there. She became a steady foundation for generation after generation, often placing the needs of everyone else before her own. There may never be a certificate, trophy, or public recognition large enough to represent what Virgie gave.

Virgie was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lois Ferrell; her father, Payton Townes; her husband, Sylvester Anderson, Sr.; her son, Orlando Anderson; her daughter, Joy Anderson; her daughter-in-law, Laura Anderson; her aunt, Dorothy Garland; and other cherished relatives.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Gwendolyn Callaham (Carroll), Ricardo Anderson, Sylvester Anderson, Jr. (Janice), Timothy Anderson (Lisa), Juanita Johnson (Garland), and Russell Anderson (Amber). Virgie also opened her home and heart to raise her grandchildren, Jenita Anderson (Lamont Barber), Jerika Anderson (Kennedra Payne), Jermaine Anderson (Jessica), Octavia Davis (John), and Tyree Anderson (Tia). She also leaves behind three devoted grandsons, Christoper Garland, David Garland, and Lewis Garland; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Anderson as well as a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones. Her family will forever speak her name with love, gratitude, and honor.

A celebration of Virgie's life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

The family will be receiving friends at 118 Water Gate Drive Apt. B.
