Tony Gray Short, 81, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Runk & Pratt Senior Living Communities, Hardy, VA.
He was born in Mt. Airy, N.C., but grew up in Greensboro, N.C. He served in the US Army in the Korean War and retired as Chief of Internal Review with the Department of Defense in 1988.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Austin Short, daughters, Annette Hodges and husband, Jack, Lisa Hobbs and husband, Milt; granddaughter Michele Anderson and husband, Ricky, 3 great grandchildren, sister, Deby Stinson, 4 nephews, one niece, 4 step-grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, and numerous first cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Walter O. and Lois S. Short, sister, Dot Lackey and brothers-in-law, Jerry Lackey, Jerry Stinson and Neil Pickard and sister-in-law, Martha Pickard.
Memorial service will be Friday, February 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Moneta, VA with Pastor David Lord officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contribution may be made in his memory to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 13586 Old Moneta Road, Moneta, VA 24121 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306. Charlottesville, VA 22901.
