Thomas “Tom” Langhorne Houck, 85, of Forest, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026. He was the husband of Joyce Ann Cyrus and third son of the late Joseph William Houck and Katherine Kemp Houck.

He was born on July 4, 1941, in Tazewell County, Virginia. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1966 with a BS in Economics and Lynchburg College with an MBA. Tom started his career with Fidelity American Bank in 1966 and retired from Central Fidelity Bank, now known as Wells Fargo Bank, as a senior vice-president after 32 years of service.

Tom was baptized at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where he served as an acolyte, a member of the Finance Committee and senior warden of the vestry. Later, he joined St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Forest. Tom was a lifelong hunter of upland game birds, enjoyed traveling with his wife, and dabbled in woodworking.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Joyce Cyrus Houck; daughter, Dr. Kay Houck Tasso and her husband Eric; brother Leighton Houck and his wife Pinky; grandchildren, Suzanne Saleeby-Alqudah (Mohammad), and Christina Kay Tasso; sister-in-law Brenda Cyrus Wilson (Stuart) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Dorothy “Bunny” Houck Saleeby; twin sons, James Langhorne Houck and infant brother, Joseph Thomas Houck; brothers Dr. Kemp Houck and Dr. Peter Houck; and former wife, Judie Perkins Houck.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, Free Clinic of Central Virginia, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, with The Rev. Todd Vie and The Rev. Matt Rhodes officiating. The family is currently receiving friends at the family’s residence. A private inurnment will take place at Spring Hill Cemetery.
