Our beloved Papa, Thomas Eldred Robinson, Sr., 86, of Forest, Virginia, slipped away quietly on September 2, 2026, in his home with his loving wife, Sheila Austin-Robinson by his side.
Thomas was born on June 2, 1940, in Hillsville, Virginia. He was the son of the late Eldred Pierce Robinson and Mary Chitwood Robinson Taylor. He was a graduate of Lynchburg College, then pursued his career in real estate development for over 50 years, ultimately finishing his career with Professional Realty Group.
Papa lived a full and memorable life filled with family, friends, laughter, and plenty of stories to tell. He was a strong and determined man who faced many challenges throughout his life, including cancer and many years of home dialysis. Through it all, he showed remarkable strength, preservation, and an ability to keep moving forward with a positive attitude.
Pop was a man who enjoyed life in his own way. He was an avid gambler who loved the excitement of taking chances and, perhaps even more, the stories and laughter that came with it. He and Sheila were frequent visitors of Rosie’s Gaming Emporium and spent many summers traveling across the country to Las Vegas. He never seemed to run short of a word of advice or a good story.
He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, his favorite ball caps and the special way he made the people around him feel. He especially treasured his family and was proud of them all.
Although his later years brought many health challenges, Papa continued to find reasons to laugh, enjoy the people around him, tell many stories, and make the most of each day. His life was not defined by his illnesses, but by the strength and character with which he faced them.
In addition to his cherished wife, Thomas is survived by, his children Kim and spouse Reed Newton, Thomas Eldred Robinson, Jr. and spouse Nicole Abraira Robinson, and Toni and spouse Brian Harris; Grandchildren, Reed Newton, Remy Newton, Tanner Blaise Robinson, and Connor Pierce Robinson, Derek and spouse Heather Harris, Justin Harris, Lauren and spouse Kevin Saxton; Great-grandchildren, Howie Harris and Tre Saxton. He is also survived by many other family members, dear friends, and a special son, Ted Jordan who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 6th, 2026, at 2 pm at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg with Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Tom will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the stories told, the laughter shared, and the lives he touched along the way.
