Celebrating the Life of Thomas "Tom" Evans
Thomas "Tom" Evans, age 84, passed away on July 12, 2026. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, he later called Washington, D.C., Blackstone, and Richmond, Virginia, home. He lived life on his own terms—with a good sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and a Bloody Mary never too far away.
Tom proudly served his country as an Army veteran before building a career as an accountant and later working in real estate. He believed in working hard but also knew how important it was to enjoy life and the people around him.
For 46 wonderful years, Tom shared his life with his loving partner, Glenn Melton. Along the way, he built lasting friendships that filled his life with laughter, memories, and plenty of good times.
Tom was happiest surrounded by family and friends. He loved hosting dinner parties, where the table was often adorned with his signature red gladiola centerpieces. He also enjoyed beach trips to Virginia Beach, spending time at Ellen Grove Farm in Blackstone, Virginia, and winding down many evenings at his favorite neighborhood spot, Thirsty's RVA, where he was always ready for good conversation and familiar faces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathleen and Edgar Evans, and his brothers, Robert "Bobby" Evans and Jerry Wayne Evans.
He leaves behind his loving partner, Glenn Melton; his dear friend, Dennis Rapp; sisters-in-law Barbara Evans and Loretta Evans; his niece, Courtney Evans; his nephews, Scott Cruz and his wife, Ameka, and Aaron Evans and his wife, Rachel; along with many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who will miss his stories, his wit, and the joy he brought wherever he went.
Tom would probably tell everyone not to be too sad. Instead, raise a Bloody Mary, take a trip to the beach, gather around the table with the people you love, and share a few laughs in his memory.
A committal service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fort Hill Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum in Lynchburg. Tom will lie in repose at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg on Monday, July 20, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for those wishing to pay their respects.
