Terry Ray Childress, 71, passed away at home, unexpectedly on August 4th, 2025. He leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Bonnie Byers Childress, and child, Kaydence Skeen. Additionally, he was greatly loved by numerous In-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the son of Ernest Wray Childress and Francis Shackelford Childress. Additionally, he was predeceased in death by his brother, Dr. David D. Childress of Danville. He was a member of Mountain View Church and enjoyed life to its fullest.
Terry graduated from George Washington High School and received his Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Financing from James Madison University. He spent more than 40 years with the Virginia Credit Union League, and its managed companies. Terry retired in March 2021, where he served as the executive vice president/chief operating officer.
He was an avid golfer, and loved to fish. To friends and family, he was known for his incredible cooking skills. He enjoyed gardening and found great pleasure sharing his harvest with neighbors, friends, and family. Terry loved watching the Vikings on TV each Sunday, and every golf tournament available for viewing.
Terry’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife, Bonnie and his sweet little girl, Kaydence.
In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate contributions to the Old City Cemetery.
Family visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 6pm - 8pm at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA.
