Sybil A. Frey, O.P., 66, of Forest, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, surrounded by her beloved son and dearest friends.

Born on August 21, 1959, in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Sybil carried her New England roots with pride throughout her life. She was a woman of warmth, generosity, and deep compassion, whose presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew her. Her only fault was her support of the Boston Red Sox.

Her faith was an important part of her life. As an active member of her church community, Sybil was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, offering kindness without hesitation. She was commissioned as a Lay Ecclesial Minister for the Diocese of Richmond and belonged to the Order of Preachers (Dominican Order).

A lifelong scholar, Sybil was eager to learn and explore new ideas. An avid reader and armchair historian, she found joy in visiting museums and historic sites across the United States. She dedicated her time to volunteering at the National D-Day Memorial and was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served as a local election poll worker, ensuring that all voices were heard.

Sybil was also a steadfast advocate for animal rights. She adored her Miniature Schnauzer, Kolbe, and her cat, Annie, doting on them with the same love and care she extended to all living beings. Both neighborhood pets and stray animals frequently came to her backdoor for treats, pets, comfort, and safety.

Sybil was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband, Judson Frey. She is survived by her cherished son, Dr. Aaron Frey; her loving brothers- and sisters-in-laws; her dear friends, the Caplingers, who became her local family; and numerous cousins. Aaron was the center of her world, and she spoke of him with boundless pride and affection to everyone she met.

She will be remembered for her contagious laugh, her kind and generous heart, and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and happy simply by being present. Sybil had a gift for connection and leaves behind numerous friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Her life was one of love, service, curiosity, and joy, and her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.
