Sue Wright Scranton , 73, of Forest, entered into heaven on Friday, June 19, 2026 to the welcome arms of her Lord and savior Jesus Christ, her parents and other family members as well friends who have gone on before, but most especially, to her most beloved husband, Phillip, who preceded her with his untimely passing on December13, 2012. Sue will be greatly missed by her family and friends who were blessed by her generous spirit and sense of humor. Sue also touched countless lives through her acts of kindness to family members and her dedication to Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.

Sue was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, December 28, 1952, the only daughter of the late Vernon (Sonny) Watkins Wright and Dolores Robertson Wright. Sue grew up and worked at the family’s busy Dairy Queen / White Tavern Grill on Fort Avenue and later at their ceramic business on Alleghany Avenue. Sue was a very talented artist in her ceramic pieces, card making and lace work.

Upon graduation from E.C. Glass High School in 1970, Sue attended James Madison University and obtained her teaching degree. Sue taught within the Lynchburg Schools system for several years and was ultimately employed by Dodson Brothers Exterminating Company in Lynchburg, where she worked faithfully to the company’s benefit for over 30 years until retirement. Sue was a member of the Cardinal Lace Guild, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Sue is survived by her daughter Tammy Seamster (Mark) of Altavista, a brother Al Wright (Donna) of Lynchburg, two grandchildren: Ashley Stilwell (Justin), Brandi Proffit (Michael) and five great-grandchildren: Jacob, Autumn, Alayna, Sadie, and Trey, brother-in-law Jim Scranton (Shelley) of Lynchburg, and niece Amelia Scranton of Lynchburg, nephews Bryan Wright (Tammy) of Forest, Craig Wright (Fallon)of Rustburg and Kevin Wright (Gessi) of Forest.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
