Silas Harvey Jr.

April 17, 1958 — December 8, 2025

Listen to Obituary

Silas Harvey, Jr., of Ellicott City, Maryland, answered his Savior’s call and entered eternal rest on December 8, 2025, at his residence. He was born on April 17, 1958, in Monroe, Virginia, to the late Silas Harvey, Sr., and Virginia Harvey.

He was preceded in death by his father, Silas Harvey, Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Flora and Sidney Johnson; and his paternal grandparents, Robert and Pearl Harvey.

Silas leaves to cherish his loving memory his beloved mother, Virginia Harvey of Monroe, Virginia; his sister, Brenda Harvey Moore of Ashburn, Virginia; his two sons, Corey G. Jones of Washington, D.C., and Cameron Trae Harvey of Landover, Maryland; his cherished granddaughter, Phoenix Harvey; and his devoted partner of more than ten years, Bernice Dargan of Ellicott City, Maryland. He also leaves two aunts, Edith Chilton and Margrette Reid (William), along with a host of cousins, relatives and friends. In addition to his sons, Silas leaves three “bonus” children: Claude Dargan IV, Christian Dargan, and Cherish Dargan.

Affectionately known to many as “Si” or “Junior,” Silas was a graduate of Amherst County High School. He continued his education at Bridgewater College from 1975 to 1979 on a baseball scholarship, earning his bachelor’s degree. A little-known fact is that during his time at Bridgewater he was scouted by a Minor League Baseball team before an injury altered his athletic path. His athletic legacy remains, as he still holds a school record for triples and was named to the All-American Conference Team in 1979. He later earned a master’s degree from Averett College.

Silas began his professional career at BWXT, where he worked for many years before relocating to Maryland. He then spent 21 dedicated years with Leidos until his passing.

Silas never met a stranger. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people wherever he went, and meeting new faces brought him genuine joy. Above all, Silas was a man of deep and abiding faith. He committed his life to Christ at an early age and was raised in Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe, Virginia, where he faithfully served as a choir member for many years. After relocating to Maryland, he became a devoted member of Israel Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, where he continued his service through various choir ministries until his passing.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home Madison Heights Chapel. Interment will take place after the service at the Bolling Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Madison Heights, Virginia.
