Shirley “Sue” Ames Russell

Shirley Russell, 88, of Bedford, died Sunday, February 18, 2024.  She was the loving wife of the late Gerald L. Russell for over 50 years.

Sue was born July 4, 1935, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a daughter of the late Richard N. Ames and the late Kathryn S. Ames. Before her retirement she was a secretary’s aide at B&W.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Russell, along with her sister, Judith Ames Staker.

She is survived by children, Dennis Russell, and wife, Diana, of Knoxville, Tennessee,

Dan Russell, of Bedford, VA, and Lisa R. Turner and husband, Adam of Lynchburg, a daughter-in-law Tammy Cook Russell of Bedford, VA, grandchildren:, Andrew, Amanda, Sydney, Heather, Jessica, Stephanie and two great grandchildren, Alice and Andrew.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
