Shirley Cox Warren Hale

March 30, 1933 — January 28, 2019

Shirley Cox Warren Hale, 85, of Lynchburg, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 28, 2019, with her loving family by her side. Shirley was born to the late Isaac Wesley and Lucy Lee Cox in Lynchburg on March 30, 1933. She was blessed to be married to two wonderful husbands, the late Charles Lane “Chuck” Warren (1962-1974), and the late Ronald Duane “Ronnie” Hale (1976-2017).

Shirley is survived by her loving family; daughter, Julie Warren Tilley and children, Samantha Tilley Difebbo (Tommy) and Aaron Tilley (Chloe) and grandchildren, Clayton, Jocelyn, Dominic and Asher; daughter, Janet Warren Walker (Kyle) and children, Jessie and Luke; Ronnie’s children, son, Billy Hale (Karen) and children, Phillip Hale (Amy) and Tracy Hale Pickeral (Mike) and grandchild, Noah; daughter, Valerie Hale and daughter ,Tori Hale Woodward (Joe) and granddaughter, Ava; son Jay Hale (Donna) and son, Caleb. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Cox Owen and children, Sarah Owen and John Owen; and many other loved ones and friends.

Shirley spent her life caring for her family, extended family, church family and friends. When asked what is your greatest joy or accomplishment in life, she would always answer, “raising my two girls.”  Although she lost Chuck too soon, she continued to invest herself fully in her girls.  She had a second chance at love when she met Ronnie and they lived a long life together with their blended family.  She was a faithful and adoring wife twice…and felt extremely blessed.

Her favorite place to be was at her home, especially when surrounded by family. She wanted to spend her life living in the home she and Chuck built.  She realized that dream and continued living there with Ronnie and until the end of her life.   Shirley was a faithful Christian and charter member of Timberlake Christian Church where she was involved in various ministries and sang in the choir. She later joined Thomas Road Baptist Church and was active in the senior ministry, Fifty Plus. She loved all kinds of music, both listening and singing, and was an avid reader. Most recently, she could be found reading or Facebook-ing while listening to the oldies on her tablet, or Googling anybody and anything she wanted to know more about.  She became a techie-granny and delighted in connecting with family and friends old and new and facetiming with the grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, VA. Visitation will be held Friday, February 1, 2019, 5 to7 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA, 24502.  Pastor David Heerspink is officiating.
