Shirley Nance Candler

Shirley Nance Candler, 90, of Goode, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

Shirley was born November 25, 1934, in Bedford County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Homer Fuqua Nance and Dovie Gibbs Nance. Shirley was retired from Bank of America where she worked in the Trust Department and attended Palestine Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son Mark Shepherd of Goode, three grandsons: John Davis Shepherd of Goode, Marcus Edward Shepherd of Goode, and Charles Fuqua Shepherd of Huddleston, four great-grandchildren: Jayden Shepherd, Ivory Rose Shepherd, Lestat Shepherd, and Bethany Shepherd, two sisters: Edith Elliott of Roanoke, and Mary Ellen Ferguson of Moneta, one brother Kenneth Nance of Griffin, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband Roy Edward Shepherd and one brother Harry Nance.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Home Bedford.

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 5, 2025, at Mt. Olivet Southern Baptist Church, 2933 Mt. Olivet Road, Bedford with the Rev. Joe Elmore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials contributions may be made to Forest Volunteer Fire Department.
