Listen to Obituary

Sharon A. Bowler, affectionally known as “Nana”, passed away unexpectedly at her home on November 2, 2025 (what would have been her husband’s 77th birthday). She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Stuart (“Stu”) R. Bowler, and her parents, Harry and Nelda Sperling. She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Clisso (Tony) and Stacie Gaddy (Travis); grandchildren, TJ Clisso, Alix Clisso, Kerry Cofer (Jordan), and Karlie Cofer Cifuentes (Carlos); great granddaughter, Luna Skyler Cifuentes; sisters, Nelda Fetters (Eben), Melanie Fels (Mark), and Cherie Bock; brother-in-law, Retired Lt. Col. Joseph Bowler (Holly); and several nieces and nephews.

Sharon graduated from Pottsville High School, attended Penn State University, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from CVCC with an associate degree in business administration. She worked for Mrs. Giles in the accounting department and for H&R Block as a tax preparer. Prior to earning her degree and a brief stint in the workforce, she was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mom, which allowed her to be involved with the church and her daughters’ activities. For over 40 years, a big part of Stu and Sharon’s lives was spent managing and maintaining Stuart House Apts., which was a small apartment complex they designed and built together. Sharon took care of all the accounting, legal and tax aspects of the business, as well as landscaping, painting, and repairs.

Sharon took great pride in caring for her home and family. She loved to shop and travel and would often accompany Stu on his work trips out of town. She also had a knack for sewing, decorating and creating things…she was “Pinterest” long before “Pinterest” was a thing.

A church service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (1000 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503) at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 10, 2025, followed by interment at Virginia Memorial Park (11490 Forest Road, Forest, VA 24551) at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Dennis S. Roberts officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or Wounded Warriors Project.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is serving the family.
