Sarah May Alexander

On the morning of January 15, 2026, Sarah M. Lewis Alexander peacefully transitioned. She was born August 8, 1938 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Fleming Lewis, Sr., and the late Edna J. Lewis. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James E. Alexander.

Sarah attended school in Campbell County, VA and went on to pursue a degree in Nursing from Virginia State University, Petersburg, VA. Upon graduation, she relocated to Queens, New York, eventually beginning her career at St. Vincent Hospital in New York, NY. She retired after 40 years of dedicated service as a Critical Care Cardiology Nurse. Sarah loved various genres of music, sports/entertainment, cooking/baking, knitting, going to flea markets, gospel concerts, and all things DENIM!

Although the move to her new home was brief, Sarah valued every aspect of being a homeowner. She looked forward to decorating and personalizing each room. Sarah was a proud and independent woman.

To cherish her memories, she leaves, one brother, Joe L. Morgan of Madison Heights, VA; one devoted sister-in-law, Brenda M. Lewis of Lynchburg, VA; a dear friend, Mr. James E. Jackson, of Lynchburg, VA, who was instrumental in making her transition here in Virginia, a smooth and enjoyable one; devoted friends and former co-workers, Ms. Elsie Turman of Baltimore, MD, Ms. Brenda Coleman, Ms. Linett Roach both of New York, NY; other relatives and friends.

A Visitation/Remembrance will be held at Tharp Funeral Home on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 5 - 7 PM. The family encourages everyone to wear denim if you would like in memory of Sarah.
