Samuel Lee Carter of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Born January 24, 1945, in Amherst County, Virginia, son of the late Mr. Earl R. Carter and Mrs. Lucille Clayton Carter of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Samuel, known affectionately throughout the Lynchburg community as “Sam the Tree Man” or “Sam’s Tree Service”, was a well-known and respected figure whose dedication, honesty, and dependable service touched countless lives. Through his business, he served neighbors, friends, and community members with integrity and pride, becoming a familiar face across the city he loved. His hardworking spirit and kind heart made him a true pillar of the Lynchburg community.

He attended Central High School in Amherst County, VA. In his early years, Samuel honorably served his country in the United States Army, a period of brief but meaningful service that reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment.

Samuel was preceded in death by his beloved long-time companion, Edith Allen; his brother, Richard H. Carter and his brother, Clarence H. Carter and sister-law Frances Carter.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Kevin Trent; one granddaughter, Mrs. Katrina Allen-Norris (Eric);one niece, Jasia Perkins; two grandsons Kevin Trent Jr. and Trayvin Trent; his adopted daughter, Loretta Allen; four loving sisters, Deloris Donigan (William) of Madison Heights, VA, Joan Waugh of Lynchburg, VA, Carolyn Carter of Waynesboro, VA, Thelma Carter of Reynoldsburg, OH, and sister‑in‑law Reverend Sarah Carter of Lynchburg, VA; and a host of other family members and friends who will forever remember his kindness and generosity.

A graveside service celebrating his life will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
