Ron was a retired Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted in 1960 at the young age of 18, and retired in 1980. He served two tours in Vietnam and survived two helicopter crashes. He earned many honors while in the service including the Purple Heart, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Air Medal.
Upon retiring from the Marine Corps, Mr. Custer continued to work very hard. He worked in sales management and then transportation. Mr. Custer took time to serve in the Prison Ministry where he encouraged many inmates, many of whom were on death row. He also cared for his terminally ill wife for many years along with his elderly mother-in-law and brother-in-law. He cared for all three of them in his home and worked full-time until the age of 70.
Mr. Custer’s life can be summed up with the words: sacrifice, hard work, dedication, and love. His family misses him dearly but are at peace knowing that Mr. Custer believed in Jesus as his Savior and that he is not gone forever. He has simply stepped out of this life and into the next one. He is with his wife now and they are worshipping the Lord together in eternal joy.
