Ronald James Charlton, 77, of Lynchburg, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016, while at home in hospice care. He was born in Canton, Ohio in 1938, son of the late Mary Jane and Owen Peter Charlton and was preceded in death by his brother Mark. He is survived by his wife Georgann of 50 years, daughter, Melissa Fox and her husband, Mike; his granddaughter, Alison; and his grandson, Charlton (Charlie).

Ron was raised in El Monte, California where he graduated from Mt. San Antonio College and soon afterward served in the Army from 1961-1963. Upon his discharge he met and married Mary Georgann Anderson of Arcadia, California. They moved to Tucson, Arizona where he worked for IBM. He returned to California, in 1968, where they welcomed their daughter Merri Melissa. Settling in Arcadia, Ron owned a business as an insurance broker, where he loved assisting his clients. Over the years he coached softball, was actively involved with the Arcadia High School Athletic Boosters, and a member of the University of Southern California Cardinal and Gold. Ron was an avid outdoorsman where he hiked the Sierras, and enjoyed fishing, skiing, hunting, and playing golf with his son-in-law and friends. In 2005 after he was diagnosed with Mutiple Myeloma, he and Georgann moved to Lynchburg to be near their daughter, son-in-law and adored grandchildren. For the past 11 years he enjoyed traveling the east coast, membership in the Hill City Master Gardners, and loved participating in his grandchildren’s activities.

A memorial service for Ron will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in the Chapel at 3 p.m. Following the service the family will welcome friends and family at their home.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Dr. #206, North Hollywood, CA 91607, or visit myeloma.org.
