Robert Lewis “Bob” Ferrell, 85, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on May 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on November 27, 1940, in Bedford, Virginia, Bob was the son of the late Nelson and Vivian Ferrell.
Bob was a proud graduate of Huddleston High School, where he served as Salutatorian of the Class of 1959. He went on to graduate from Lynchburg College in 1963. He also proudly served his country in the National Guard for six years.
Bob dedicated more than 50 years of his life to the insurance business in Lynchburg, where he built lasting relationships and earned the respect and trust of countless clients and friends through his integrity, kindness, and work ethic.
Above all, Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 60 loving years of marriage with his wife, Carolyn. Together they built a family that was the center of Bob’s life and greatest joy.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ferrell; his children, Dean Ferrell, Kristy Ferrell Edmonds, and Jenny Ferrell; his son-in-law, CS Edmonds Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Ann Ferrell; his grandchildren, Abbie Morrison, Amelia Edmonds, Hannah Ferrell, and Ellie Ferrell; his great-granddaughter, Georgia Morrison; and his brother, William “Billy” Ferrell.
Bob was a faithful member of Timberlake Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. He previously served as a deacon at Beulah Baptist Church, where he faithfully served his church and community.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, Virginia, beginning at 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will immediately follow at Quaker Baptist Church in Bedford, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Timberlake Church.
Bob will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication to his family, and the kindness and humility that touched everyone who knew him.
