Robert Louis Ferguson, Jr., affectionately known as "Bobby Flame," passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2026. Born on November 28, 1969, in Glenridge, New Jersey, Robert lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a relentless passion for his craft.
From his early years attending the Montclair and Bloomfield School Systems, Robert showed a deep commitment to learning and self-improvement. He pursued his passion for automobiles by attending Auto Mechanics Trade School, from which he graduated and embarked on a career that would span more than 35 years. As a respected and skilled auto mechanic, Robert was known not only for his technical expertise but also for his generosity and compassion. If anyone had an auto problem but lacked the financial means, Robert would gladly fix it through barter, reflecting the big heart he held for people throughout his life.
His love for music was evident to all who knew him. Robert found joy in writing songs and playing his acoustic guitar, moments when his eyes would shine with happiness. Family gatherings were times of excitement for him, where he was constantly seeking wisdom and cherishing the connections that brought meaning to his life.
Robert is survived by a loving family who carry forward his legacy and spirit. He is mourned by his father, Robert Ferguson Sr., and Carol White of Bloomfield, NJ; his mother, Shirley Terrell, of St. Petersburg, Florida; and his stepfather, Douglas Banks Sr. His children, each cherished and loved deeply, include Danasia Ferguson of New Jersey, Angel Ferguson of North Carolina, Robert Noel Ferguson of Illinois, Steven Ferguson of Amherst, and Devon Anderson and Teia Penn, both of Lynchburg. His longtime partner, Shirley Penn, was a steadfast companion and source of support.
He treasured his role as a grandfather to four grandchildren: Naomi, Mia, Elisanys, and Eli. Robert’s siblings, Ericka Banks, Nicole Franklin, and Douglas Banks Jr. with his wife Shauna, all residing in Lynchburg, also survive him, as does his godmother, Barbara Ricks of Atlanta, Georgia. His extended family and circle of friends, including numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and close companions, remember him fondly and grieve his passing deeply.
