Robert Edwin Devries
Robert Edwin DeVries, 84, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, June 15, 2013. He was the husband of June Johnson DeVries for 64 years. Born Saturday, October 27, 1928 in Chicago, IL, Robert was a son of the late Joseph DeVries and the late Zena Keizer DeVries.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by: a daughter, Debra E. Toews (Barry), of Lynchburg; three sons: Dennis DeVries of St. Charles, IL, Daryl E. DeVries (Cheryl), of Lynchburg, and Rev. Dean E. DeVries (Elaine), of Lebanon, IN, three brothers, a sister, 15 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Robert graduated from Moody Bible Institute and later served on the Alumni Board. He began his career as a rural pastor in Minnesota. Over the years he worked for Servicemaster and various other companies in the suburbs of Chicago, and was the mayor of Addison, IL for 4 years. His greatest passion was the local church, serving the Lord, and teaching the Bible.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Heritage Baptist Church. A celebration of Robert's life will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Heritage Baptist Church with Dr. Gerald Kroll officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
