Robert Thomas Bumpas

Robert Thomas Bumpas, 80, of Rustburg, VA, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026.

Robert was born on August 16, 1945, to the late Robert Mallory and Josephine Smith Bumpass.

After graduating high school, he went on to join the United States Army, serving both in Vietnam and Korea. Following his time in the military, Robert pursued an education from Central Virginia Community College. Robert spent his career as an electrical lineman for Richardson and Wayland, where he retired after an injury.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Doris Dixon Bumpas; stepchildren, Peyton W. Dixon of Rustburg and Phillip W. Dixon (Diane) of Florida; grandson, Peyton T. Dixon of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Janice Rogers of North Carolina; aunt, Rumell Goodson of North Carolina; and best friend, R.B. Taylor of Goode, Virginia.

A Graveside Service will be held at Fort Hill Memorial Park on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
