Richard Wayne Wingfield

Richard Wayne Wingfield, 82, of Bedford passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Cardinal Senior Living in Bedford. He was born in Roanoke, VA on November 12, 1943. A son of the late Virginia Lillie Eckart. In addition to his mother Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Walker and a brother-in-law, Robert Stevens.

Richard was known for his work ethic and determination to take care of his clients. For over fifty years he was a paint contractor and served so many throughout Bedford County and surrounding communities. During his career he had a great opportunity to work alongside his two sons doing what they loved. Before his painting career Richard was an SGT with the Bedford Police Department for 16 years, then worked for Moneta Correctional Facility Camp 24 for four years. Spending time with his family brought so much joy, also his deep-sea fishing trips with friends. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends in the days ahead.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dianne Wingfield; three children, Troy Wingfield and his wife, Janie, Diana Branch and her husband, Greg and Travis Wingfield and his wife, Holly; six grandchildren, Skylar and his wife, Brenna, Victoria, Hallie, Lily, Brayden and Emily; two great-grandchildren, Greyson and Ryland; two siblings, Mary Stevens and Billy Walker and his wife, Melissa; Sister-in-law, Penny Walker. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and many friends and valued clients.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Dr’s and Staff of Affinity Hospice, Cardinal Senior Living, and Richards private Care Givers for their love and support during this most difficult of times. A funeral service and celebration of Richard’s life will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Whitehurst officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Bedford. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00pm on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home Bedford.
