Richard Earl Roberts

Richard Earl Roberts, age 71, of Bedford, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026. He was born on November 2, 1954, in Bedford, Virginia, Richard was the son of the late Lawrence Talman Roberts, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Newcomer Roberts. Richard spent over 30 years working as a truck driver, earning the respect of those who knew him through his hard work, dedication, and quiet strength. Outside of work, he was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and dedicated farmer. He valued family above all else and found joy in the simple things in life, especially time spent with those he loved most. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 28 years, Sherry Roberts; his son, Scott Sigmon (Brittany); his daughter, Shelly Sigmon (Will); and his beloved grandchildren, Eli, Owen, Liam, Noah, Sadie, Hannah, and Elaina. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two of his sisters, Catherine “Jean” Roberts Beard and Nancy Roberts Fitzgerald; his brother-in-law, Wayne Fitzgerald; and his father-in-law, Ronnie Joe Meador. Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Larry Roberts (Debbie); his sister, Dorothy “Dot” Miller (Randy); his brother-in-law, Mike Meador; his mother-in-law, Judy Johnson; his three favorite nieces, Wanda, Teri, and Cindy; and two special friends Timmy White and Stony Roach; and numerous other family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 20, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the family farm. Richard will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his unwavering love for his family, and the steady hand with which he guided, loved, and passed his values on to those who came after him.
