Richard Boyden Park, 88, passed away peacefully January 29, 2026, in Lynchburg, Virginia. Born on Sept. 23, 1937, in Raleigh, NC. He was the son of the late Hubert Vern Park and Mary Alice Park.
He was predeceased by his spouse, Jane Faison Park of 58 years. Richard is survived by daughter Rebecca Pascale and husband Chris, son Keith Park, and wife Cheryl, and six grandchildren, Kirsten, Brooke, Sydney, Cameron, Katelin, and Collin.
He is survived by his siblings Elizabeth Whitaker and her deceased husband James, Alice Fairbrother and her husband Woody and Vern Park and his wife Sheryl.
Richard graduated from Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC and from North Carolina State University with high honors in Nuclear Engineering. Upon graduation he entered the Navy and spent part of his service on board ship and two years teaching at the United States Naval Academy. In Lynchburg, Virginia, he worked at Babcock and Wilcox until retirement. Richard was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He also volunteered and was a mentor at the Jubilee Center, Meals on Wheels and Lynchburg Daily Bread.
The family wishes to acknowledge the special people who helped him these last few years, his neighbors Jim and Gigi McCabe, and from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Pastor Dennis Roberts, Parrish Nurse Gail Midkiff, and friend of over 50 years Carole Royer. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to any of the four charities that were near and dear to Richard’s heart: The Jubilee Family Development Center, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lynchburg Daily Bread, and The Lynchburg Humane Society.
Memorial service is to be determined later in the Spring
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
