Richard Leigh Carwile, 72, of Lynchburg, died on Thursday, February 10, 2011. He was born in Campbell County on August 29, 1938 the son of the late Harry Gray Carwile and the late Lucille Hudson Carwile.
He is survived by his sisters, Phyllis Moody of Lynchburg, Marilyn Clemmons and husband, Carl of Pulaski, Jeanette Scott and husband, Lewis of Brookneal; his nephews, Aaron Moody, Nathanal Clemmons and wife, Cindy, and Zachary Scott; his niece, Penni Scott Williamson and husband, Steve; his great-nephews, Ryan Carwile, Logan Moody, Parker Moody and Luke Clemmons; his great-niece, Grayce Clemmons and a devoted friend, Jean Banton, of Appomattox. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a great-niece, Rachael Clemmons.
Richard was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church in Naruna and a graduate of William Campbell High School and Phillips Business College. He was a retired bookkeeper for Candler Oil Company. Richard was a loving brother and uncle. His interests included Nascar, bluegrass music and trains.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg and other times at Richard\"™s residence, 29 Shore Line Drive, Lynchburg.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with the Rev. Matthew Diehl and the Rev. C. Douglas Pillow officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
