Richard Lee Daugherty, 97, of Lynchburg, died on July 11, 2026 in Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Pueblo, Colorado on May 29, 1929, the son of the late Walter and Rose Daugherty.
He was the National Sales Director for Frances Denney (formerly Chapstick). He was a United States Navy Veteran. He belonged to the Moose Lodge #1727 where he proudly held the office of Governor 1995/1996, the year they moved from Leesville Road to their current new location on Waterlick Rd. He was very active with woodworking crafts and traveled many years with his wife working craft shows. He always felt very blessed to have his "lake family" at Buggs Island Lake and he spent as much time as possible there for 40 years.
Richard is survived by his wife Debra who he referred to as "the love of his life", his daughter Julie (Kent); three sons, Steve Daugherty (Tammy), Scott Daugherty (Grace), Rob Daugherty (Lisa) and a special man that he called his "adopted son", Steve "2.0" Everett (Sydney). Three granddaughters, Jessica (Dillon), Kristen, and Kelsey (Colton). Three great-grandchildren, Ezra, Atlas and Arden. A brother-in-law, Jeff (Pat).
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Dal Daugherty, John Daugherty and Robert (Bobby) Daugherty and his sister June Alderson.
A memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory in Lynchburg on July 20, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Wayne Lanham officiating. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
