Rebecca “Becky” Jane Fizer Allison

July 9, 1935 - February 26, 2026

Rebecca “Becky” Jane Fizer Allison, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, in the presence of her beloved family.

Becky was born in Pulaski, Virginia on July 9, 1935, to Richard "Graham" Fizer and Margaret Dalton Fizer. Her early childhood was spent in Allisonia, Virginia on the banks of the New River. Becky had many fond memories living in the old Victorian boarding house owned by her grandmother, Ida Dalton.

Their home stood between the river and the railroad. The ‘boarders’ were a part of the family as they shared supper with the Fizers each night. Becky, and her sister Anne, thought it was great fun to listen to the tales of the boarders through the door transoms.

Becky attended a two room schoolhouse in Allisonia until 3rd grade when her family moved to the town of Pulaski. Becky grew up roller skating to school with her best friend Betty Beamer. She was very close to her grandmother, “Mama” who lived with the Fizers until her passing at age 101.

After graduating from Longwood College with a degree in Elementary Education,

Becky married her high school sweetheart Charles “Charlie” Murray Allison in 1956. It was a classic tale of town mouse meets country mouse as Charlie’s family ran Allison Dairy for multiple generations in Pulaski.

Charlie, a Virginia Tech dairy science major, dreamed of owning and running his own dairy. The dream came true when Becky and Charlie moved to Bedford, Virginia in 1960 with two children, two sheep and 3 goats in tow and began to build their life and dairy farm.

Becky and Charlie worked hard and played hard. In a quiet little Bedford, they and their many new friends knew how to drum up fun and generally ‘did life’ together.

Becky was a good golfer and bridge player. She disliked long hair, was a spiffy dresser and never went out without lipstick. After 40 years, her beloved Bridge Club still meets, albeit with less card playing and more socializing over wine! She was keenly practical, yet full of joy and fun, with a witty sense of humor and a merry twinkle in her eye.

Becky and Charlie were blessed with three children, Jane, Chuck and Kate.

Once all were in middle and high school, Becky volunteered as a Candy Striper at Bedford Memorial Hospital. Her skills and care for others were evident to all. She was asked to be Director of Social Work, a position that she would hold for 25 years until she retired.

Becky embodied gentleness and grace in the presence of quiet strength. Her granddaughter Mollie commented “She effortlessly gave us unconditional love and made us feel special and supported.” You always knew where she stood and that she was on your side.

For Becky, there was no pretense. She was authentic and fully present with all those she met and knew. Becky was modest, never seeking attention.

She loved God and her Lord Christ Jesus. She lived out this love in quiet faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, sister Anne Fizer, brother Dick Fizer, and daughter Jane Hamlett.

Becky is survived by her son Charles “Chuck” M. Allison Jr. and daughter-in-law Ann Allison, her daughter Kate Hurst and son-in-law Clyde Hurst III. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Tom Parker, Mary Wilson, Mollie Barton, Stefanie Janky, Sarah Kleiman, Rebecca Allison, Clyde Hurst IV, Charles Hurst and William Hurst and by eight great grandchildren: Cooper and Charlotte Janky, Joe Wilson, Henry Parker, Ellie Kleiman, Hunter Barton, Keller Barton and Clyde Hurst V.
