Rachel Caroline Maria Elena Baxter, 32, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2026, with her mother by her side, holding her hand. She was the daughter of the late Joseph “Pete” Baxter II and Maria Elena Ballard.

Rachel was born on February 8, 1994, in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. She attended E. C. Glass High School. Although medical challenges prevented her from graduating with her class, she later earned her GED through Lynchburg City Schools.

Rachel was an avid reader who once read an incredible 300 books during a single summer break. She enjoyed watching a good movie, working on crossword puzzles, painting, photography, collecting Funko Pops and Plushie Dreadful stuffed animals, and spending time with her favorite fidget items. She also had a special love for sunflowers.

Rachel had a generous and compassionate heart. She loved giving to others and took great joy in surprising her family members with thoughtful gifts. While in middle school, she participated in two mission trips through Peakland Methodist Church, helping people in need.

Family was the most important part of Rachel’s life. She was always there to listen whenever someone needed to talk or vent about life. She shared an especially close and meaningful bond with her younger sister, Rebecca. Her family will remember her generosity, thoughtfulness, and the many ways she showed her love for the people around her.

Rachel is survived by her mother, Maria Elena Ballard; step-father, George Anthony Ballard (Tony); siblings, older brother, Madhav Rajendra Sakrudkar and younger sister, Rebecca Ina Mae Baxter; grandmother, Carol Ann Sanchez; and many extended family members and friends who loved her deeply.

In addition to her father, Rachel was preceded in death by her grandfather, Pedro Paul Sanchez, affectionately known as “Pop-Pop.”
