Philip Jason Ore

“Therefore, you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one is going to take your joy away from you.” John 16:22

Philip Jason Ore, 58, of Forest, Virginia, passed into Glory way too soon, suddenly after a brief illness, on September 21, 2025. He was a faithful and loyal servant of God, a member of Forest Baptist Church, and a loving and faithful husband to his beloved wife, Susan Lafon Ore for 32 years.

Born at USAF base RAF Lakenheath, England, he was the youngest son of Harry P. Ore and Gladys Haynes Ore of Lynchburg. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Collin Ore (Christy), Samuel Ore, Nathan Ore, and William Ore; grandson Otto Ore, granddaughter Allison Ore; brothers Robin Ore and Stanley Ore; father-in-law and mother-in-law Jerry & Betty Lafon; sisters-in-law Mechelle Lafon and Bethany Dancey (Elias); nephews Nicholas & Xander Dancey; niece Anastasia Dancey, and a large extended family of Ore, & Haynes relatives whom he loved dearly.

Philip was a 1985 graduate of Heritage High School, and a 1990 graduate of Virginia Tech, majoring in Business Admin. Then jumping into the exciting world of printing and direct mailing, currently with RST Marketing.

A man of many interests, Philip loved spending time with family, going on outings, history, ancestry, his Haynes grandparents’ farm, old things, Civil War, rooting for Va Tech Hokies and Minnesota Vikings football. Music of all kinds including Gospel, choral, classical, pop, rock, R&B, jazz, funk, Level 42, he sang in church choirs, played trombone in his HS marching band. He also enjoyed golf and loved street basketball especially when he outgrew his brothers and could block their shots!! He collected old cameras, and TRACTORS, and riding lawnmowers !!

Phil was such a good man, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law. A shining example of the fruits of the spirit, so thoughtful, caring, a loyal friend, funny, friendly, always eager to help others. A proactive believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, raising his family in the faith. A big burly guy, but really just a gentle giant teddy bear deep inside, unless on the rare occasion you goofed up big time and got him really mad, ha.

A service celebrating Phil’s life and faith will be held at 12 p.m. noon on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Forest Baptist Church, 1313-2 Church Lane, Forest VA, officiated by Pastor Tyler Scarlett. The family will receive friends at a visitation one hour prior to the service. Following the service, there will be a light reception. Inurnment to take place the following day at 2 p.m. at the cemetery behind the old Forest Baptist Church on Two Church Lane.
