Peter Dorman

Peter Dorman passed away at home on August 4, 2025. He was surrounded by his family: his wife of 36 years, Audrey (Shultz), and his children, Evan, Zoey, and Tate. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers.

He was born on August 31, 1950, to Eleanor (Haas) and Simon Dorman in Noblesville, IN. His parents took Peter and his brothers, Duane and Bob, to Crooked Lake in Michigan each summer, a tradition he continued with his own kids. He received his PhD in English from the Ohio State University in 1994 and taught English at Central Virginia Community College for 28 years. He passed his lifelong love of the written word on to his children and to countless students. Peter played guitar, saxophone, piano, and mandolin, and enjoyed many genres of music in ways that damaged his hearing but enriched his life.

In lieu of flowers or cards, the family asks that donations be made in his name to National Public Radio or the Bedford County Public Library.
