Pearl Johns, age 72 of Concord, VA, passed away peacefully in Lynchburg General Hospital August 14, 2025. She was born in Campbell County, Virginia on August 21, 1952, to the late John H and Thelma L. Christian.
Pearl attended Appomattox High School in Appomattox, Virginia. She married the late Clarence “Cat” Johns on February 14, 1970. Pearl worked several years as a seamstress and in culinary. Pearl gave her life to Christ at a very young age and was a very faithful member until her health began to fail. She loved to sing on the choir and give glory to God. One of Pearl’s favorite gospel songs was “So many Times in my Life” by Debra Snipes. Pearl loved sitting at her dinner table working word puzzles while listing to her gospel music. Pearl would not hesitate to lend a helping hand to her family, friends and a stranger on the street. Pearl loved her children and grandchildren very dearly. When they visited her and it was time for her family to return home, Pearl would go into her pantry and give out can goods, nuts, fruits and some frozen foods and anything she wanted to give her family. Pearl’s love her only son was unconditional; they both depended on each other to do for one another.
Pearl found joy in preparing meals and finding loving gifts to celebrate family and friends’ birthdays and during holidays. She had a knack for preparing the most delicious banana pudding, potato salad and other delicious dishes, which were some of her family favorites. Family gatherings for holidays and any occasion delighted her, especially when it included good, smothered pork chops. During her last three years of life, while receiving medical care she kept the faith, and trusted God will deliver her either on this side or when God decided to take her home to live with Him forever
In addition to her late husband, Clarence Johns Jr she is survived by her children, Cheryl (Robert) Daniel of Grovetown, Georgia and Clarence “Booggie” Jamal Johns of Concord, VA, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. She is survived by two siblings, Constance Brown of Lynchburg, VA, Warren Preston of Concord, VA.
She’s preceded by her late brothers, Lafayette Christian, Nathan Christian, Roger Christian and sister Emma Elliott. She’s survived by a host of nieces and nephews and many loving friends in the community.
Although Pearl physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. As you continue to worship Jesus in heaven, dear Pearl, your light will forever shine in our hearts.
