Paul Gene Baker

Paul Gene Baker, 82, of Lynchburg, VA, died Monday, October 11, 2010. He was the husband of Doris Ann Culbreth Baker for almost 50 years.

Mr. Baker was born Thursday, April 05, 1928 in Dongola, IL, a son of the late Frank Barton Baker and Geneva Greer Baker. He was retired from the U.S. Navy seeing active duty at Pearl Harbor during World War II. Following his retirement from the Navy in 1972, he began a second career as a data processor and retired from Chapstick where he was a manager. He was a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Steven Scott Baker of Lynchburg, VA, and Howard Terry Baker of Comptche, CA; and a sister, Bonita L. Mangum of Anna, IL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Baker, Bobby Baker and Richard Baker.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory. A celebration of Paul's life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 15, 2010, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Dr. Rob Colwell officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.
