With profound sadness, Brenda and Harold Brown announce the passing of Patsy Ann Loving Joy, whose generous spirit touched countless lives.

Patsy was a native of Lynchburg, Virginia. She was born at Virginia Baptist Hospital on January 1, 1936. She was the daughter of the late John Insley and Emma Keesee Loving. In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Urban Lyle Joy, Jr.; infant daughter, Baby Joy; brother, John Chester Loving; and two great-great grandbabies, Baby Jones and Remington Lane Jones.

Patsy attended E.C. Glass High School before studying at Lynchburg Marshall Lodge Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

The love of Patsy’s life was her late husband, Urban Lyle Joy, Jr. Her marriage to Lyle was one of love, friendship, respect, and countless adventures. Patsy enjoyed a long career in the operating room, with the advantage of Lyle being in the Air Force, she worked all over the United States. Patsy retired from Virginia Baptist Hospital. After retiring, Patsy enjoyed her family most and traveling. She and Lyle enjoyed boats, campers, and later in life taking cruises.

Patsy is survived by her daughter, Brenda and son-in-law, Harold Brown; granddaughter, Christy Ann Schmitt and husband, Brandon; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Crane Jones and husband, Nick, Thomas Lyle Schmitt and Charlotte Ann Schmitt; two great-great grandchildren, Destiny Ann Jones and Easton Lane Jones; one sister-in-law, Hazel Williamson and husband, Earl; one niece, Susan Maxey and husband, David; three nephews, Richard W. Loving and wife Robin, John C. Loving, Jr., and wife Judy and Roderick Shawn Pillow and wife, Belinda. She is also survived by many great nieces, nephews, cousins and step grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

Patsy’s memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 11:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church on Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, Virginia.

A private burial will follow on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
