Patricia Martin Townsend, 81, of Lynchburg passed away on March 13, 2026, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, William Townsend; her parents, Robert and Frances Martin; and her beloved friend, Vicki Vaughn.

She is survived by her daughter, Amy Townsend Jones (Steve) of Lynchburg; her grandchildren, Tristen, Taylor and Victoria; her sister, Carolyn Beckham; a niece, Sara Beckham-Henry (Mike); a nephew, Glenn D. Flint, Jr.; great-nieces (Lorelei, Fiona, Sonia); a great-nephew (Finn); and dear friends, Katherine and Chris Gegner.

Born on April 10, 1944, in Staunton VA, Patricia spent her early years in Staunton and Newport News before moving to the Lynchburg area. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School and continued her education at the University of Virginia Extension located in Lynchburg. Patricia then began her career at The News & Advance before choosing to devote herself fully to raising her daughter - a role she cherished above all. Once her daughter had left for college, Patricia rejoined the workforce in customer service, where her kindness and patience left a lasting impression on those she helped. However, her greatest joy came from her grandchildren. For many years, she dedicated her time to caring for her grandchildren each afternoon.

She had a deep love of reading and books, often finding both joy and quiet comfort in the pages of a good book. She also enjoyed travelling with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Together, they explored many areas of the country and created treasured memories across the United States. Patricia cherished the trips to Graceland in Memphis, New Orleans, the Winter Olympics in Utah, Mexico and Beijing while fulfilling many of her bucket list items.

Patricia will be remembered for her devotion to her grandchildren, her gentle spirit, and the countless everyday moments that made those around her feel loved and cared for. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society.
