Norine Rucker Hughes

Norine R. Hughes passed away on November 22, 2025, at University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA.

She was born in Amherst County on May 19, 1936, to the late Radford Rucker and the late Ora Morris Rucker, and attended Amherst County Schools.

At an early age Norine gave her life to Christ and joined St. Mark Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her health declined. She enjoyed cooking and baking and always had a smile and a kind word to share.

Norine was married to the late Henry Wesley Hughes and from that union she had six children, Brenda Tuner (Daniel), Lillian Tinsley (George), Sylvia Tracy (Ricky), Jennifer Smith (Donnie), twins, Anthony Hughes and Annette Hughes; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, brother in law, Curtis Hughes; sister in law, Connie Rucker; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Those that Norine joined in heaven include all her siblings, Lucille Crawford, Radford Rucker, Jr., Willie Ann Goins, Walker Rucker, Elmer Rucker, Maudine Hendricks and Clara Hughes.

A celebration of life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Madison Heights. Interment will follow at the Rucker Family Cemetery.
